For 101 Ways to Say I love you 65. "You didn't deserve that... You deserve so much better."
Rik gave Ollie a hug as he was leaving and they both lingered in it longer than they probably should have.
“I'm going to the racetrack with Hans for most of the day.” Ollie's words had the two Danes pull back and stare at each other. It was like they shared the same thought, a flicker of pain, of happiness, of loss, and the faintest smile.
“You know, I have the track later.” Ollie mentioned it.
Rik looked down and pulled away but no one had to tell the dark haired Dane what the guitarist was feeling. They had known each other so long that they could read each other in seconds. Maybe it was the years of existing, surviving, trauma where the smallest bits of information had to be known without being spoken.
“Hey.” Ollie grabbed Rik's hand and felt the blonde shiver, or maybe he was quaking. “I want you there. That Brit of yours has to learn and... well it pisses me off when he acts like you're going to leave him.”
“He has reasons.” Rik hadn't looked up from where he was staring down at his scuffed ankle boots.
“I don't care what reasons he has.” Ollie needed to say these things to someone and for a moment thought Rik wasn't the right person, but who else would this matter to than the person involved. Ollie sighed heavily and let his hand slip away from Rik's. “I know your father beat you for coming to see me. I know it happened every time and you still snuck out to see me. I know Mikkel covered for you and got the brunt of it too. He's a damned idiot to question your loyalty to anyone.”
Rik slowly looked up and the racer could see the shock in his expression. Ollie knew Rik had tried to hide the outcomes of the time they spent together but Ollie always knew. He had thought about breaking up with the blonde so many times because of the abuse but he couldn't bear to because he also felt like he was the only good thing in Rik's life.
“You don't deserve to be treated like you aren't a ride or die, walk through hell for someone else, person.” Ollie pulled the other Dane back into another hug. “He's a lucky man acting stupid.”
Rik finally laughed for no apparent reason at first, while pulling out of the hug. “Like you trying to hide yourself from Hans like you don't need anyone?” The accusation blushed Ollie's cheeks. “You love having someone in love with you and you have one of the sweetest men I know trying to bang your door down but you were running.”
Ollie felt called out and shy all the sudden but Rik was right. It took a moment before Ollie joined in the laughter. “Well, I still want you to come down to the track. You'll really make me test the car if I put you in the pacer.”
Rik felt things changing, Ollie did too but for the first time it wasn't hurting, not like it had. Rik grinned. “You want to lose?”
“I taught you.” Ollie shot back to see the blonde dissolve into giggles.
“Pray I don't bring Aarne.” Rik threatened.
“I'm not putting that crazy bastard in a car that pushes past 250.” Ollie shook his head wildly.
“Joe would come along. They're connected to each other.” Rik warned and saw Ollie shake his head and facepalm simultaneously.
“Has he ever seen you behind the wheel?” Ollie asked but the toan was a tease.
“No.” Rik admitted.
“I bet he's like Hans gawking from the sidelines.” Ollie taunted.
“Don't you mean begging you to drag him in the back seat?” Rik spoke but Ollie turned that right around.
“Is that what the Brit does with you?”
Rik flushed, giggling and hiding behind his hair. “No.”
“Well he should.” Ollie poked at Rik's side and listened to the telltale squeal. “I'll see you around 5, I'll have a car... a purple one if I can find it.”
Rik gave Ollie a shove out the door and went back to get some breakfast while most of the others were still sleeping.
