"I wish I would have but I was 15 when I found out. I met him a couple times, or really he just screamed at me for being trash. He's a scary bastard. I wish I could have gone with him but I didn't have enough money.
[Ollie has a lot of regrets but he still glad that Rik is safe and happy. That is still the most important thing even if it made his heart ache.]
I don't race as much now. I'm doing more stunt driving recently. Are you still playing?
"I'm sure you're not trash, vän. He sounds like a piece of skräp himself. Bastard."
Hans knew of men like that. Pig-headed bastards who thought themselves above everyone else, looking down belittling others. Those people just riled him up something awful. As for playing? Hans hadn't stopped since music had been his life line since the overdose.
"Yes. My guitar playing helped me through a lot of my trauma and health issues. Without it I don't know what dark place I might have ended up."
Possibly dead but Hans didn't want to go down that road.
"His parents are very wealthy and I grew up poor. I love every moment that Rik is successful and he can't take credit for it like he used to when Rik was a kid."
There was a sense of revenge in watching Rik's success and knowing his father would be raging over it.
"I think Rik survived the same way." Ollie wanted to stop thinking about it though because the flashes he had of Rik's battered body, taking care of him so many mornings before they went to school, those images never left. "I haven't seen him in a couple years but his tour is crossing paths with one of my shooting locations in awhile."
"Rik is something else. The kid has talent I've never seen before and Hunter picked up on that too. Just hearing about how his parents treated him just makes me angry and sad for him. But yes he is a survivor."
Hans knew that much about the boy and was glad he was now doing what he wanted to do with the Hammers. The Swede wanted to be in Rik's life more but during rehab and everything he just distanced himself from the Hammers and everyone else. Those days were tough.
"We should all meet up together sometime. I'd like to know more about your stunt driving too, Ollie. It sounds like fun. I'm more of a keen climber and swimmer but driving around in stunt cars sounds like a blast."
"Have you ever heard him play the harp?" Ollie would rather think about something good though the frown is deep when Hans mentions Rik's parents, the hurt takes time to shove away. "He has good people around to help that now."
Ollie was doing his best to focus on the positive in light of the topic. "We might. Rik wants me to come spend a few days with him. I taught Rik and Aarne some of what I know about street racing. They're both naturals."
Not surprising since both of the young men were daredevils like Ollie himself.
Hans wanted to though. Even though he spent a lot of time with the Hammers and Rik he'd never actually heard the Dane play the harp. It got the Swede interested. The company would be a helping hand in allowing the Dane to heal after suffering so much shit in his past.
"Oh nice. Street racing sounds like fun. I like watching racing on television and am interesting in sports cars and high adrenaline sports. Swimming and climbing mostly but I'd be up for racing too."
Daredevil? Hans was one of those too at heart. Before rehab he'd been a crazy high energy young man who often got into trouble with his stunts and outward bound activities.
"He's good on a guitar but the harp is like his soul." Ollie meant that as an instrument but it also translated into Rik's spiritual beliefs.
"Street races aren't as common here in the US, but they are back home." Ollie mentions. "I'm racing an LA circuit before they leave to wherever the next dates are on the tour."
That might have been an offer to come watch. He knew Rik and Aarne would come at the very least, and perhaps their bassist. It wouldn't hurt to have more fans watching him. He hadn't done too many track races in the US yet.
"Harp is such a beautiful and soft instrument I find compared to the sometimes loud and harsh sounds of the electric guitar. It's soft melodies can indeed soothe the soul I believe."
Hans nodded understanding where Ollie was coming from. As for Rik playing? He'd have to watch one day when the boy wasn't busy performing with the Hammers. The Swede knew how tough the schedules could be.
"A circuit in LA? That sounds like fun. I do hope you can come and join in on the tour for some of it, Ollie. You're a fun loving boy and it will do Rik some good to see you again. As for watching you race? I'd be down for that too."
"Rik is like an angel on it." Ollie might be swooning a little over memories of Rik but he can't help it. "I think he has another recital in the winter. You'll have to ask him."
Ollie wanted to go to the next one because he missed out on the Spring recital on Rik's request. He thought maybe it would be too much for Billy and Ollie could definitely understand that no matter how much he wanted to see Rik.
"I can send you the race information or come along with Rik and Aarne." Ollie smiles a lot. "I'm looking forward to meeting Aarne's boyfriend. Rik told me he's as crazy as the drummer."
"I will have to ask him because I want to see this."
Hans was adamant about seeing Rik play, whether it be guitar, harp or anything else. His talent was outstanding for such a gifted young man. As for Ollie? Well, he seemed an energetic and friendly boy who loved fast cars. That and smashing them up at demolition derbies. All good fun.
"How about I come along? I've always been one for getting in on the action. I'm sure Aarne and Rik won't mind if I tag along. Joe? He's a wild one. I swear they look like twins with their crazy black hair and clothes. Aarne is taller than Joe but they drink like fish and often share a bottle of Jack together wherever they go. I'll make sure they won't bring drink if they get inside a car though."
Hans being the dad of the band at times knew how crazy and reckless Aarne could be and Joe was no better it sounded like.
"Sure, you can come along. I've set aside more than enough seats in the stands." Ollie looked forward to meeting the people around Rik and those that had helped him succeed. Even if they are crazy. "I'd believe it. I heard stories about Aarne when he was dating Rik."
"Thanks. Ah yes, Aarne did date Rik for a short time. This was back when Hunter and I---we, well we were a thing back then."
The Swede didn't want to dwell too much on his past and even though his memories with Hunter were special they were filled with pain because of the OD. His PTSD had basically caused him to not be able to sleep properly because of nightmares. Shifting away from that he was now looking forward to spending time with Ollie, Rik and Aarne.
"I'll see you then. Oh uh---did you want my number at all? So we can talk about meeting up and whatever else."
Hans texted the number to Ollie's phone and hoped the boy would get in contact. A friend of Rik was a friend of the band and that meant a friend of Hans. The Swede smiling once he pressed the "send" button.
"Ok, you should have got it. Until next time at the races then, Ollie?"
Ollie sent his number in response. He didn't mind making friends with the bands. After all, many of them seemed to share enthusiasm for things he liked too.
